DUBAI – Dubai’s sporting calendar is set for a cool twist as the DXB Snow Run returns for its seventh edition on Sunday, May 17.

Hosted at Ski Dubai in collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council, the event offers runners a rare opportunity to compete in sub-zero temperatures just as summer heat begins to intensify across the emirate.

Open to participants aged between 13 and 70, the race is designed to promote community engagement, fitness and inclusion, aligning with the UAE’s Year of Family initiatives. The indoor setting, maintained at -4°C, provides a distinctive environment that continues to draw both casual runners and seasoned athletes year after year.

DXB Snow Run

First launched in 2020, the DXB Snow Run quickly gained attention as one of the earliest snow sports events globally to take place after pandemic restrictions eased. Since then, it has evolved into one of Dubai’s most anticipated niche sporting experiences.

Set within the icy slopes of Ski Dubai at Mall of the Emirates, the race combines endurance with novelty. Participants run through a snowy terrain, offering a sharp contrast to the city’s outdoor climate during May.

Runners can select between two race categories: a 3km route consisting of three loops, or a 5km challenge covering five loops. The format caters to varying fitness levels, ensuring accessibility while maintaining a competitive edge.

Race format

The event allows participants to compete individually or as part of a team of five, introducing a mix of personal challenge and group dynamics. This dual format has been a key factor in the event’s popularity, encouraging both solo runners and corporate or social teams to take part.

Despite the freezing conditions, participants are expected to generate enough body heat during the run. Organisers recommend wearing standard sportswear with soft-soled running shoes and gloves that provide adequate grip on icy surfaces. Many runners also opt to bring a change of clothes for post-race comfort.

The indoor snow environment remains a defining feature of the race, transforming a standard run into an unusual and memorable athletic experience.
